COVID-19: MANAGING THE RISK

Battalion Update 26th March 2020

 26th March 2020

 16th March 2020

The Northern Ireland District advised today the following in regards to DofE Activities:-

In relation to the announcement from David Blevins, President of the Northern Ireland District, you will be aware that all District activities have been suspended with immediate effect. The statement, which is included below, also “encourages Battalions and Companies to do likewise”.

To that end we have made the decision to suspend all Duke of Edinburgh outdoor and expedition activity with immediate effect for the foreseeable future.

BBNI Training & Programme Officer

We’re currently monitoring the situation with the outbreak of the Coronavirus across the UK and keeping up to date with advice issued by UK Government and Public Health Agency. The Boys’ Brigade UK& RoI Headquarters has updated its guidance notes earlier today and you will find this at https://boys-brigade.org.uk/coronavirus-managing-the-risk/

14th March 2020

On Saturday night (14th March 2020) the Northern Ireland District of the Boys’ Brigade issued the following advise:

Advice from health and education officials in Northern Ireland differs from that of their counterparts in the Republic but only on the issue of timing it seems. In other words, it appears likely that schools and colleges in Northern Ireland will close in due course and that mass public gatherings will cease for a period of time.

Boys’ Brigade is a voluntary organisation so it seems prudent to act responsibly now in the fight against COVID-19.  To that end, after discussion with the Director for Northern Ireland, I have made the decision to suspend all District activity with immediate effect and encourage Battalions and Companies to do likewise.

‘We have an anchor that keeps the soul, Steadfast and sure while the billows roll.’

Yours in Boys’ Brigade,

David Blevins
District President

However, with the uncertainty surrounding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) at present and the potential impact this will have on large social gatherings in Northern Ireland, the Belfast Battalion has taken on board this guidance, our interpretation of this is that ALL B.B. ACTIVITY should cease with immediate effect.

Until advised otherwise, B.B. House and the Battalions’ Centres will remain operational.

As you will appreciate, the situation is evolving almost on an hourly basis so I shall endeavour to issue further updates as and when I receive them.

Paul McCarroll
Chief Executive
